Stormie’s Review of: From Dead to Worse
“From dead to worse” is the eighth installation in the
Sookie Stackhouse series. This is the first book in
the series that I have read.
The story is about Werewolf, Witch and Vampire
societies that stem from New Orleans. In the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and a man-made
explosion at the vampire summit, everyone is in an
uproar-humans, weres, and vampires alike.
Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress who is trying
to deal with the fact that her boyfriend, Quinn(a
were) is missing. Sookie is a friend to weres and is
blood-bonded to a vamp who is the leader of the local
vamp community. Because she has a foot in both camps,
this puts in her the middle of the ensuing war between
the weres and vamps.
I did not feel a pull to the main character, Sookie.
I found her rather annoying and I couldn’t understand
why every male in the story was in love with her. The
description of her in the book did not make her sound
very attractive and I felt like she acted like a
10-year-old which made me confused. I almost felt
like one of the other characters would be better
suited for the main slot in th series. That said, the
other characters were weak and this could be due to
the fact that this is a series. However, I believe
that even in a series, each book should be able to
stand on it’s own. Even though I read the eighth book
in the series, I have no desire to go back and start
at the beginning.
Recommended read? Nope.
